About Me

My name is Craig Rolling, and I’ve been analyzing data since before it was cool (although I always thought it was cool).

Before “Data Science” existed, I was one of a handful of Statistics majors at the University of Chicago and went on to earn a Ph.D. in Statistics at Minnesota. My unique career path has included stints with two marketing analytics consulting firms, writing game notes for major TV sports broadcasts, designing software for the MLB Players Association, developing novel Machine Learning methods published in peer-reviewed journals and, most recently, serving as the Director of Data Science at Benson Hill.

My academic research background and 15+ years of industry experience has given me a deep understanding of how AI, Machine Learning and statistical models work, how to effectively collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders and, most importantly, how to build and implement Data Science solutions to support better decisions and meaningful outcomes. I value attention to detail, active listening, clear communication, and business impact. You can learn more about my story, and why I do what I do, here.
